Providence History

Located on Hwy 156, the old Searcy-Batesville Road which was built in the 1930s, Providence  was the primary route for those migrating through Searcy, Little Rock and farther Southwest because the the Old Southwest Trail/Military Road was not convenient.

The Old Providence Cemetery was supposedly originall a burial ground for slaves from the farm of Elijah Little who settlled there in 1832 and from which the city of Providence grew.
