Bald Knob Dog Pound

Judsonia Mayor Charles Buice announced the renovation of the Judsonia Dog Pound. It will be located across the old bridge, south towards Kensett. The project was taken on to relieve the overcrowding at the Pound in Bald Knob.
Judsonia now has their own Animal Control Officer, Dennis Swanson. He began the position in the middle of February and will be sent to be certified for euthanasia of animals as soon as possible.
The facility will have six large pens to house the animals with a security fence surrounding it and will be patrolled frequently by the Judsonia Police Department.
"We don't have too large of a problem with strays, but they are a continuing problem," states Buice. The new dog pound should be in operation by at least the the beginning of next week, March 9.

The Humane Society of the United States estimates there are about 4,000 puppy mills (mass commercial breeding facilities) nationwide and about 90% of the canines sold in pet stores come from these places.

Of the top six largest puppy-producing states -- Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma -- only Arkansas has a lemon law. In states with a lemon law you can return a puppy for a full refund if within 10 days the dog has a contagious disease or within 30 days for a dog with congenetial problems. Or they can keep the new family member and have the seller pay the vet's bills.
