Thanks for getting back to me.  I just found something amazing!  
It is a hand-written 6 page document which I am just beginning to transcribe.  
It was in my father-in-laws papers.  Here are the first 2 pages!  Lisa Finch finchmail@earthlink.net

I believe this handwritten record came down through the family from Gussie Finch Hedgepeth. 
There is a notation at the top "Papa wrote this record.-- G.F.H" It is dated Oct. 20th 1927---

Henry A Finch was borned Aug. the 28th 1850 and Laura A. Hedgepeth ws borned Aug. 24th 1856. Henry A Finch and Laura A. Hedgepeth daughter of James E. and Sally A. Hedgepeth was married by James H. Gilbreth Methodist Protestant Preacher October the 29th 1873 and was the father and mother of the following children:

Ira Washington Finch Sep. 3rd 1881

Thus ends the family of the first marriage.

George W. Finch was borned and raised in Franklin County near Epson N.C. and was borned in the year 1820 and married Sarah Caroline Bradshaw who was borned in Southampton County Va. but was raised near Henderson N.C. and was married by Jonathan Fuller a local Methodist Preacher in the year 1847 and was the father and mother of the following children.

My Finch ancestor, James Madison Finch, lived near Epsom, NC in what is now Vance County. 
This is a little over six miles east as the crow flies from Kittrell. 
I suspect that Edward, James Madison, and Isham Gray Finch were all closely related, 
but to date I have not been able to identify a common ancestor.
