Hi Chird This was posted on our Izard County website today, and since there was a Bobbitt involved thought you might want to see this. Do you have a Gus Bobbitt? Anna, Thank you, I appreciate the reply. Living in Oklahoma, I'm sure you may be familiar with the story of one of the last hangings in Oklahoma, the one at Ada, Pontotoc Co., Oklahoma in 1909 where four men, 'Deacon Jim' Miller, Jesse West, Joe Allen and D.B. Burwell, charged with the murder of Gus Bobbitt, had been arrested and jailed and the jailer was overcome and the four men were taken from the jail and found hanging from the rafters of an abandoned livery barn behind the jail. There were three other men charged with murder in the jail at the same time, but they were left in jail, unharmed. One was the young nephew of Miller the other two were a man named Johnson and a Dan Scribner. Johnson and Scribner were in jail for killing Town Marshal Zeke Putman of Allen, Oklahoma, according to information given in a book written on the hangings. Now, Ada being so close to the towns that my great grandmother Scribner was living in, I'm sure this "Dan Scribner" possibly could have some connection to her, but I have never been able to find out anything about him other than what was written in the book titled "Four Men Hanging" by Welborn Hope, he mentions that the sheriff fearing the possibility of another hanging, Scribner (who had received a sentence to be hanged), was taken from the jail during the night on a train to Seminole and I believe retried there and his sentence was reduced to life imprisonment. There was also an Andy Scribner who was given a life sentence for killing his brother Frank's wife, who was sentenced in district court in Ada in 1909.

Corner sat on a strip of land surrounded on three sides by Indian Territory, so the 
saloon was also a magnet for the rough and tumble cowboys, Indians and drovers who 
lived on the opposite side of the border. A second saloon was soon opened and, as in
Keokuk Falls, the competition for the lucrative whiskey trade led to a deadly feud. 
The feud did not end until two years after prohibition when four of its participants 
were hanged by an angry mob in Ada after the murder of a U.S. marshal. The marshal, a 
man named Angus A. Bobbitt, had been one of Conner's partners in the original Corner saloon
