James Joseph Barnes of 11218 Glynbrook Drive, Riverview, Fla., passed away among family at 11:30 p.m. on Christmas Day.
Battling prostate cancer and afflicted with Alzheimer's, Jim refused to acknowledge the chance he may not live to be 100 years
old and often joked about joining the ranks of Bob Hope and George Burns.

Born June 4, 1918, to J.B. and Mary Elizabeth Barnes in Judsonia, Jim will return to be buried in the family cemetery next to
his brother, Elmo Barnes. Jim served his country proudly during three wars, retired with 27 years service and received an
honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force at Madill AFB in Tampa, Fla.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Hughes Barnes; son, James Douglas Barnes and wife, Kim Anne Barnes; grandson,
Mark Jacques; and an extended family in Florida and Arkansas.

He made a great many friends in his 85 years that will miss his sense of humor and love of life.

Visitation will be at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 29. A graveside service with military honors
will be held at the Salem Baptist Church on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at 1 p.m.

Those of us that knew and loved him will be left with an empty space as big as his heart.
