When the truck was rescued in March 2013 it was in a field with a small tree growing up through the bed, the truck odometer read 31,188 miles.
The plugs were cleaned and re-inserted, gas tank cleaned, generator replaced by alternator and some rewiring. It was registered driven mostly on the family farm.

When I bought the truck it had 32,071 miles on the odometer. I had 4 new 235 75/R15 tires mounted at Dennnis' Lube & Tire in Melbourne, great service.
I also stopped at G H Miller & Sons Hardware at 501 Main St for a sheet of external, treated plywood cut to fit the bed, another business with great service.
I drove it 90 miles home at 45mph with no problem  except the speedometer cable twisted in too shortly before arriving.
At home I noticed the fan belt was so loose I was surprised the water pump or alternator worked.

The wire from the coil to the distributor was very loosely connected, the nut at distributor connection was almost off.
The water pump shaft to the fan had a lot of play. I replaced replaced the water pump & thermostat.
I also replaced the coil and the battery box, cleaned the engine compartment. Removed the radiator to be checked & painted.
I took the seats out, cleaned the floor up; it had some rust in front of the seat to the pedals, I applied Rust-X on it.

Stepsides are a are fairly easy to come by but the '57s (351,739 total truck production, 198,538 under 6,000 lbs produced) are the most popular of all years.
The '65 and '72 editions run close behind, probably it's the one-year grille that makes the '57 so popular. from HEMMINGS Buyers Guide
